This course will introduce you to the basics of motor vehicle maintenance and allow for progression to a higher level to increase your knowledge and skills further. The course covers a specific range of subjects including Health and Safety, knowledge of vehicle technology and practical workshop methods, basic routine manitenance, skills to support working relationships in the automotive working environment.
You will spend time working on the college vehicles and receive theory lectures on the vehicle mechanical and electrical systems relating to their operation, construction and the diagnosis of faulty components.
There are no minimum qualification requirements, however if you do not have maths or English we will support you to improve your skills.
Your progress will be assessed by observations of your practical skills within the college workshops. Each unit of the qualification requires you to pass a multiple choice online assessment test. There will also be assessment of your technical knowledge through professional discussions with your tutor and online computer based testing.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

This course provides a great introduction for those looking for a career in motor vehicle maintenance. The course assumes very limited knowledge of the motor vehicle trade. There is no minimum level of qualification required although Maths and English is desirable. The course directly leads to our Certificate and Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance at level two.
You will study units including using automotive workshop tools and equipment, how vehicle systems operate and what components they contain.

You could move on to an apprenticeship with an employer or progress onto our Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance course.
