Current legislation requires that all those who undertake chainsaw operations within the canopy of a tree from rope and harness must be appropriately trained and qualified. This training course offered by Northumberland College equips you to undertake an industry-compliant certificate of competence assessment.
You will need to be at least 18 years of age and should hold a certificate of competence in one of the following units:
- Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting
- Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
- Award in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue
(Verification of these units must be produced prior to the start of the course.)
You will be taught using a mix of theory and practical methods.Assessment leading to certification should take place as soon as possible following the successful completion of the training course.
City and Guilds
This course will take place between 9am-5pm. Days dependent on booking availability.
The course will cover the skills to undertake safe and efficient branch removal operations, utilising a range of cutting techniques while being supported from a rope and harness.
City and Guilds
You will receive certification enabling you to use a chainsaw supported by a rope and harness in your day to day work. This will support you if you work in arboriculture or as a tree surgeon.
On completion of this course, you can also progress to study one of our other land-based courses.
