What’s it all about?

This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19 year old learner who wishes to work towards becoming a plumber in the building services industry.

It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning through an apprenticeship programme or into employment. This vocational route at Level 2 is a vital step towards becoming a competent plumber.

You will need 2 GCSE's at grade 4-9 including Maths and English. Or a relevant Level 1 qualification.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

You will have the opportunity to take part in a local work placement to give you the opportunity to experience working life.

We have a number of links to industry, including partnerships with plumbing companies to ensure you gain an outstanding learning experience with us and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to a career in industry.

You will study up to 22 hours per week in college and will be expected to take some time outside of college to complete work at home that is assigned to you via a remote platform.

Mon-Fri, between 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will cover compulsory aspects, such as:
- Hot water
- Cold water
- Sanitation
- Central heating health and safety
- Plumbing processes
- Scientific principles
- Rainwater

Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and- where possible - work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the plumbing industry or specialist further study.
