This course will give you the required competency based qualification to practice as a Level 3 early years educator in line with the national curriculum (early years foundation stage) with children between birth and 5 years of age. It is designed for adult students and runs on a part-time, flexible basis to work around employment, family and other commitments.
It is expected you will complete the award in 12 months and recommended you undertake 350 recorded placement hours over the duration of the course.
Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that students will be able to enter the workforce as early years educators.
Minimum requirements set out in the full and relevant criteria have been surpassed and this qualification fully reflects the priorities of practitioners and employers to meet the needs of young children.
You will require an enhanced DBS (funded and applied for by the college) and employment/placement in the 0-5 years early years sector.

To gain this qualification you will need to: Pass all units, complete a longitudinal study in the setting and show competence in a real work environment.
You will be assessed using a range of methods including: Written reports, posters and booklets, observations in the setting, group class tasks, reflective practice and peer assessment.
English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your chosen career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills. There is a requirement that all EYE's must have a level 2 or GCSE (4 and above) in maths and English to practice at level 3.
Placement/employment in an early years setting is a key component and essential to be able to achieve the competency based outcomes of the course.
Settings such as full day care nurseries, pre-schools, school nurseries and childminders are all relevant and suitable, however, you will need to show skills working with babies and children from birth to 5 years of age, so multiple placements are permitted if your setting does not cover all ages.
The course is designed for students aged 19 years and over who wish to study to gain the required qualification to practice as a level 3 early years educator (EYE) in line with the national curriculum (early years foundation stage) and government requirements working with babies and children from birth to 5 years (and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years).
The course runs on a part-time, flexible basis to fit around work and family commitments. You should be progressing from a relevant level 2 award, employed or volunteering in an early years setting with sound knowledge and experience in the sector. It is expected you will complete the award in 12 months and you are required to undertake 350 recorded placement hours over the duration of the award.
