This qualification is suitable for learners 19 years or over. A vocational qualification / subject specialism at level 3 or above (those you intend to teach) or substantial vocational practice in the sector (may be considered) to complete this training. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to read and communicate clearly and accurately enough to meet the requirements of the qualification.

You are required to produce a portfolio of evidence which includes three written assignments. To achieve the Level 3 Award in Education and Training evidence of achievement of all the assessment criteria must be demonstrated. You are also required to design, deliver and evaluate a micro-teach session, gaining invaluable feedback from your tutor and peers.

The course is designed for both the private training industry and post 16 educational provision, and covers the generic teaching skills that are required in becoming an effective teacher/trainer.

The Award in Education and Training is designed to provide an introduction to working in the education and training sector. This course is designed to meet the needs of a range of individuals who would like to start teaching or those individuals who are already teaching and may currently be working as assessors, but need a nationally recognised teaching qualification for their career development. The course is designed for both the private training industry and post 16 educational provision, and covers the generic teaching skills that are required in becoming an effective teacher/trainer.

Learners will gain knowledge on the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, inclusive teaching and learning approaches, facilitating learning and development with individuals or groups and the role of assessment in the teaching and learning process.

You will learn the skills and qualities required to become a successful teacher/trainer through completing 3 units:

Unit 1 focuses on your roles and responsibilities as a teacher.

Unit 2 involves planning sessions and the importance of providing an inclusive teaching setting that meets all individual needs.

Unit 3 investigates the three main types of assessment in teaching and the important role ongoing assessment plays in teaching.

What’s next?

Following the completion of this course, you could progress to a Higher Education course in order to gain employment in the teaching and education sector.
