The programme focusses on your development through the National Governing Body Award schemes for both land and water based qualifications. Working alongside our instructor team you will assist in the facilitation of activities for the foundation and intermediate year groups.
You will also organise and attend activity residential weeks in areas such as the Lake District, North Wales and the West Highlands of Scotland.
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, or a relevant level 2 qualification. In addition to these, you must have accredited personal experience (including group work) which is relevant to the course. It may be possible to access this course on completion of the Foundation or level 3 certificate course.

The candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence over the course of the year.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
This course would include 2 to 3 days a week at college but it would be expected that students would be gaining experience in the outdoor industry and taking part in activities with clubs and employers whilst not in college.
Core units students will study are:
- Leading Land Based Activities
- Leading Water Based Activities
- Organising an Event
The course offers an excellent foundation and springboard for those wishing to work at a good level in the outdoor industry and many of our students move straight into employment on completion of this course.
A Foundation Degree in Outdoor Education or Sport Science or a teaching qualification, e.g. Certificate in Education could be considered. A NVQ level 4 in management in the outdoor industry may also be a consideration.
