We are so excited to welcome you back!

Thank you for your continued support over the last few months. We have been very humbled by all your kind emails, offers of donations and offers of support. We really do appreciate it.
Your visit to Northumberland college zoo may feel a little different to what you have experienced in the past.
Parking for the zoo is in the bottom car park only. This year the woodland areas, garden areas and main campus grounds are no longer part of the offer. The tickets you purchase will give you access to the zoo grounds only.
Packaged snack, crisps, hot drinks, canned and bottled cold drinks, ice cream and gifts will be available from the kiosk in the picnic area within the zoo grounds.
Keeper talks and encounters are available daily. Please see website for details, or posters at the zoo when you arrive.
Tickets are restricted each day to ensure we can comfortably accommodate everyone around the zoo.
Please do not come to the zoo if you are suffering from any symptoms of the coronavirus.

How we are keeping you safe

  • We have carried out a detailed risk assessment to ensure we are COVID secure.
  • We have limited numbers of tickets sold each day. We are selling tickets in advance to make sure we can restrict numbers within the zoo to allow social distancing. We will review regularly ticket numbers and release more tickets when we feel it’s safe to do so and post updates on our social media and website.
  • Tickets can be bought online before you arrive. Feel free to check the day you are wanting to come to see if you can purchase those. Simple show us the tickets on a smart phone. No need to print off. We cannot sell tickets at the kiosk – this will be reviewed regularly.
  • The Zoo snack kiosk will be open daily from 10.30 -3.30 daily. Selling cold drinks, hot drinks, packaged snacks and a range of gifts. These are all on display,, we are happy to show you the items before you purchase.
  • We are only accepting card payments within the zoo so please have a card payment method if you are wishing to pay for anything.
  • Plastic screens have been fitted at the admissions kiosk and at the zoo kiosk for staff and guest safety.
  • Picnic areas have been spaced out. The picnic areas and seating is regularly cleaned throughout the day.
  • Around the zoo we have created a suggested one-way system – this is to allow safe social distancing and ensure you get to see everything in the zoo. In parts where a one-way system is not possible then please walk to the left to allow safe passing. Floor stickers and directional signage is around the zoo along with a map that you will be given when you enter the zoo to follow. Internal areas including the aquatics centre and the Walk of Life indoor area are both one way. Please follow the signage to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
  • The wallaby walkthrough is open each day – please check posters for times when you arrive.
  • Additional hand sanitiser stations have been provided. Please use these to regularly sanitise your hands. Wash your hands regularly.
  • Toilets are open and will be regularly cleaned throughout the day.
  • Reminders to not touch glass windows and stand-off barriers are provided to reduce cross contamination.
  • First aiders are still available but have been updated with COVID measures to ensure staff and guest safety.
  • Our staff may be wearing additional PPE including gloves, face shields and masks. This is to keep them safe while working around the zoo.
  • We appreciate that the Northumberland weather can be changeable. While we do have indoor areas we cannot have more than what is socially distance allowed in these areas if the rain comes. Please bring an umbrella so that you don’t get caught out.
