What’s it all about?

You will need 5 GCSE's at grade 4-9 which must include Maths, English and Science and appropriate equestrian experience. A relevant Level 2 qualification would also be considered alongside GCSE Maths and English.

Study level Cost Additional fees
16-18 Free The course fees are waived if you are aged between 16-18 or this is the first Level 3 course you are studying. If you are 19 and over there will be a cost to study the course. In addition to this, you may be required to pay for trips and visits on the course. Also, you will be required to purchase uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when studying this course, however, this information will be provided at enrolment.

Progress is assessed by a range of methods which include practical assessments, observations, written assignments and tests. 1:1 progress reviews ensure that students remain motivated and continue to work to their full potential.

You will develop further practical skills such as working and exercising horses from the ground, horse presentation skills (grooming, clipping, trimming and plaiting) and you will also learn about horse biology and horse behaviour and welfare.

You will also gain the skills to be able to undertake event management and you will also gain knowledge and understanding about the principles of equitation. You will also gain an understanding of business skills which are important for progression into a wide and diverse range of employment opportunities.

The aim of the course is to develop skills and knowledge about equine management within the areas of feeding, biology, coaching, riding and much more!

This course will give you the knowledge and skills to progress onto a higher education or onto employment within the equine industry.

Compulsory topics include:

- Stable yard management skills
- Equine health checks, health status and health plans
- Fitting and evaluating of horse tack and equipment

Learners will also be able to choose additional optional topics, including:

- Feeding and nutrition
- Behaviour and welfare
- Fittening and exercising
- Competition grooming
- Riding and coaching
- Rehabilitation and therapy

What’s next?

Upon completing this course, students can pursue careers in various equine-related fields, such as stable management, riding instruction, or equine welfare roles. Alternatively, they may continue their studies with higher education with our Level 5 Foundation Degree in Equine Management, Coaching & Training or join other degrees such as equine science or business management, enhancing their prospects in areas like equine therapy or breeding. This qualification provides the foundation to thrive in both hands-on and managerial positions within the equine industry.
