Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall Campus is among the country’s top performing land-based colleges for 16-18 student achievement.
Following strong results in many Technical and T Level courses, Kirkley Hall was ranked second nationally in the National Achievement Rate Tables (NARTs) published by the Department for Education earlier this month. The campus also retained its place as the top land-based college in the North East.
T Levels in Agriculture, Land & Production were a national standout success, with a 100% pass rate, ranking joint first among all nine general further education colleges across the country, offering the same programmes.
Overall, the land-based provision at Kirkely Hall exceeded national benchmarks for student achievement, including in Animal Management, where students hone their skills at Kirkley Hall Zoo, a leading specialist teaching zoo which provides students with practical, career-focused experience in the animal and land-based industries.
Across Northumberland College’s campuses, including Ashington and Berwick, students achieved an overall 99% pass rate for technical qualifications, with 89% of students achieving merits and distinctions in courses including Engineering and Information Technology.
The college, as part of Education Partnership North East (EPNE), is part of the joint top performing general further education college group in the region and placed in the top five nationally.
Published annually, the NARTs are key summary indicators of performance in apprenticeships and education and training and show the percentage of students that were awarded their qualifications. The national tables rank over 200 sixth forms and colleges.
Lee Lister, Campus Principal at Kirkley Hall Campus, said: “Being the top performing land-based college in the North East once again is something we’re proud of. It reflects the hard work and commitment of our students and staff, as well as the supportive and inclusive learning environment we have built, which enables students to feel secure, supported and for them to achieve their potential.
“These results, including the 100% pass rate in our T Level Agriculture, Land-Based and Production courses and strong achievement across technical qualifications, show the quality of education, the hard work and professionalism of the staff and the dedication shown by students.
“To maintain our position in the National Achievement Rate Tables is a fantastic accomplishment, and it highlights our ongoing focus on helping every student develop the required skills, succeed and progress into their chosen careers.”
