Our new campus timeline

 Northumberland College’s new Ashington Campus will revolutionise the education and skills landscape in the North East and beyond. Supported by the Department for Education, the campus will offer state-of-the-art facilities aligned to industry priority areas. 

Built on a 5.7-acre site at Wansbeck Business Park, the development will create an immersive industry experience for thousands of learners.

From the 2026-27 academic year, we will move our award-winning provision to the new Ashington Campus. Comprising of three buildings, the campus will offer study routes for 16-19-year-olds and adults, including apprenticeships, T Levels, vocational qualifications, Higher Education and full and part time programmes.

A Centre of Technical Excellence

Technical pathways for electrical and mechanical engineering, robotics and automation, civil engineering and groundworks, automotive and green transport, housing and modern construction.

Including the:

  • School of Engineering, Manufacturing and Automotive
  • School of Construction

Academic and technical Heart of the Campus:

The Heart of the Campus will be home to the college's:

  • School of Health and Science, featuring a simulated hospital ward and science labs 
  • English, maths and ESOL
  • School of Education and Childcare.
  • School of Business, Visitor Economy and Commercial Industries
  • School of Sport, Exercise and Well-being.
  • School of Computing and Technology.
  • Specialist hub for young people and adults aged 16-25 years with SEND.
  • Pathways for employability.
  • Science laboratories, industry-standard workshops and an immersive lab.
  • Commercial restaurant open to the public and local businesses for use.

Student Life Centre: 

  • Future Ready Skills Hub including employment, careers, financial, welfare and study support services 
  • Large theatre space with auditorium bleacher seating
  • Campus café and dining facilities 

Building a sustainable future

Built using biophilic principles, the new campus will be designed to enhance sustainability, optimise renewable technologies, meet the challenges of climate change and connect with nature with green spaces, rain and plant gardens supporting health, wellbeing, and the environment.

We will introduce a range of new apprenticeship and technical pathways into work or higher education, as well as launching a new Academic Career Academy.

Our partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Announced in 2024, this transformative partnership will provide clear and visible technical and academic pathways into a range of NHS careers including nursing, midwifery, childcare and health sciences.

A new School of Health will be opened, supported by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Cramlington Health and Care Academy, with a new curriculum featuring T Levels and A-Levels aligned to the needs of the NHS and the broader health & care sector.

The school will also partner with Northumbria University, providing professions-facing pathways to guaranteed interviews for higher education courses.
