Choosing the right plant for the right location is one of the most important skills for creating a healthy, attractive, and resilient garden.
This practical four-hour course is designed for beginner and novice gardeners who want to make informed planting decisions, avoid common gardening mistakes, and create outdoor spaces that benefit both people and nature.
Participants will explore how factors such as soil type, light levels, moisture, and garden conditions influence plant success.
The course also examines how plants can serve different purposes, from creating colourful borders and edible gardens to providing privacy, year-round interest, and valuable habitats for wildlife. Learners will discover how thoughtful plant selection can support biodiversity by providing food and shelter for pollinators, birds, and other beneficial insects, while contributing to healthier, more sustainable garden ecosystems.
Through demonstrations, plant examples, and practical activities, learners will gain the confidence to assess their own garden, select plants suited to its conditions, and understand the wider environmental benefits of planting the right species in the right place.
