What’s it all about?

Looking to start your journey into teaching? This qualification is ideal for those who want to explore a career in education or deliver training in a workplace setting. Designed for individuals who aren’t currently in a teaching role, it provides a comprehensive introduction to teaching and learning, focusing on further, adult, and community-based education. No prior teaching experience is required, making it accessible to those with a passion for sharing knowledge and guiding others. You’ll develop a solid foundation in the principles of teaching, learning strategies, and classroom management, preparing you for a rewarding path in education.

This qualification is suitable for learners 19 years or over. A vocational qualification / subject specialism at level 3 or above (those you intend to teach) or substantial vocational practice in the sector (may be considered) to complete this training. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to read and communicate clearly and accurately enough to meet the requirements of the qualification.

Assessment on this course consists of an portfolio of evidence. The portfolio will consist of a range of evidence, which may include:

- Assignments and written reports
- Observations of teaching
- Worksheets
- Professional discussions
- Witness testimony
- Peer reviews and feedback
- Verbal and written questions
- Reflections and action plans

To achieve the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, you must demonstrate evidence of achievement across all the assessment criteria. You are also required to design, deliver and evaluate a micro-teach session, gaining invaluable feedback from your tutor and peers.

The course is designed for both the private training industry and post 16 educational provision, and covers the generic teaching skills that are required in becoming an effective teacher/trainer.

The programme is offered on part-time basis (3 hours per week) over 12 weeks. There is a requirement for additional study outside of the classroom or research/reading aligned to the topic.

Sessions will be delivered both face-to-face and remotely online.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training course is an introductory teaching qualification. It is appropriate for teachers, tutors, trainers, lecturers and instructors who may be working within an Further Education college, adult and community learning centre, or learning provider, as well as for those delivering work-based training (e.g. voluntary, community, private and public organisations).

This qualification provides the underpinning knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to confirm occupational competence in teaching. This includes the planning and delivering of schemes of work and sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and learning strategies, communication and exploring a range of assessment practices.

By the end of the programme, you will have developed the skills and knowledge needed to get a job, advance your career, or progress to further study at college or university.

- Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
- Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
- Understanding Assessment in Education and Training

What’s next?

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to: a range of courses at Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5, around education, training, competence and vocationally related achievement.
