What’s it all about?

The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft: Floristry is a practical, hands-on course designed to develop your creative and technical skills in floral design. You will explore both contemporary and traditional floristry techniques while building confidence in producing arrangements for a range of occasions.

This qualification is suitable for beginners or those with some experience who want to expand their knowledge of floristry and creative craft processes. It also introduces you to the wider creative industry, helping you understand potential career and enterprise opportunities.

Teaching is delivered through a mix of practical workshops and theory sessions. You will:

- Take part in tutor demonstrations and hands-on floristry tasks
- Develop a portfolio of evidence including photographs, notes, and design work
- Receive ongoing feedback and support from experienced tutors

Assessment is 100% coursework-based, with no exams. You will complete a portfolio of work for each unit, which is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

This course is delivered one day per week between September and June, allowing you to balance study with other commitments.

Duration: 3 hours per week

In addition to timetabled sessions, you may be expected to complete some independent study, including portfolio work, research, and preparation for practical activities.

This course aims to:

- Develop practical floristry skills using a range of materials, tools, and techniques
- Build understanding of the creative craft process from idea generation to final outcome
- Encourage creativity, problem-solving, and personal style
- Introduce business awareness and employment opportunities within the creative sector
- Prepare learners for progression into further study or employment

You will study the following mandatory units:

- Use materials, tools and equipment to develop craft techniques
- Develop craft ideas
- Investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities
- Create, present and evaluate a final floristry item

Course content may include:

- Floral design principles and colour theory
- Hand-tied bouquets and arrangements
- Wedding and sympathy designs
- Care, conditioning, and storage of flowers
- Presentation, evaluation, and portfolio development

What’s next?

On successful completion, you could progress to

– NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Creative Craft (Floristry)
– City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 Diplomas in Floristry
– Employment in floristry retail, events, or self-employment

This course also provides a strong foundation for further study in art, design, and creative industries.
