This course will help you to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to obtain employment in the welding industry.
You must have achieved the following qualifications to enroll onto this course: English and Maths atGCSE grade 4, or a Level 1 qualification in another subject.

You will be taught using a range of teaching techniques including:
- Demonstrations
- Instruction
- Training
- Individual development
You will complete a training program in each welding process then complete a series of weld tests linked to industry standards.
You will also be required to answer underpinning knowledge questions U.P.K.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies whatever career route you choose.
You are required to have achieved a GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths to enrol onto this course.
We have several links to industry, including partnerships with local engineering companies to ensure you gain an outstanding learning experience and are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to a career in industry.
You will study up to 10 hours a week in college and will be expected to take some time outside of college to complete work at home.
The aim of the course is to develop skills and knowledge in welding to allow you to progress to career in industry.
You will study a several modules when studying this course including:
- Working safely in an engineering environment
- Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
- Using and communicating technical information
- Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment
- Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment
- Preparing and using semi-automatic MIG, MAG and flux cored arc welding equipment

Following this course, you could progress to the next level of study to further develop your skills, or gain employment as a welder in the engineering and automotive industry. You could also progress to an apprenticeship.
