Northumberland College Higher Education students joined their fellow graduates from the University of Cumbria for a celebration of their academic achievements.

Hundreds of graduands from a wide range of subjects including 20 students from BA (Hons) Working with Children and Families, FdA Working with Children and Families and FdA Counselling taught at the college’s Ashington Campus, received their degrees and awards at the impressive Carlisle Cathedral watched by proud parents, families, friends, and lecturers who have supported them.

Before the ceremony, there was a formal procession into the Cathedral with staff and graduates in academic robes. A celebratory drinks reception afterwards formally marked the end of their programmes and the beginning of a bright future.

Anna Brash, who studied BA (Hons) Childhood, Youth and Family Studies, said: “Studying with Northumberland College and the University of Cumbria has helped me advance in my career and become more confident in my job role.

“I’d like to thank Programme Leader Lesley Jobson and Course Team Leader Jenny Jenkins for all of their support.”

Northumberland College offers a variety of Higher Education courses including a number run in partnership with and accredited by local universities, such as the University of Cumbria.

Sally Dixon, Higher Education Quality Lead at Education Partnership North East of which Northumberland College is a part, added: “It was a proud moment to see our Northumberland College students graduate in the beautiful Carlisle Cathedral.

“They are a real inspiration with many of them studying and progressing with us over a number of years, proving that students can study at local colleges to achieve honours degrees which will support their careers and future ambitions.”
