Three new T Levels have been launched at Northumberland College which will offer students the opportunity to develop the skills needed to progress into employment or further study within the construction, business, and animal management sectors.
Available from September 2024, the courses in Animal Care and Management, Onsite Construction, Management and Administration at Kirkley Hall Campus will enhance the college’s existing T Levels in agriculture, childcare, digital and adult nursing.
Designed with and in partnership with employers, T Levels focus on vocational skills with 80% of the course spent in their learning environment, with students gaining the skills that employers need.
The other 20% is an in-depth industry placement that lasts at least 45 days, where they put these skills into action meaning students get valuable experience in the workplace and employers get early sight of the new talent in their industry.
Lee Lister Vice Principal at Northumberland College and EPNE lead for SEND Curriculum said: “As the technical equivalent to A Levels or an Apprenticeship, the College realised the value of these new qualifications and became an early adopter of the vast majority of each T Level in the five launch waves.
“We are currently delivering Agriculture, Digital, Health and Education and these are already enhancing the skills of our students and ensuring they are prepared for employment. The college is adding Business, Engineering, Onsite Construction, Land based Engineering and Animal Management T Levels into its curriculum, for September 2024.
“It is brilliant to see our students thrive on their T level programme and become skilled, confident and work ready, poised to support employers and become the next generation of employees in Northumberland.”
The new Animal Care and Management T Level at the college will prepare students who wish to work within the animal management or animal behaviour sectors. They will learn the core knowledge and skills needed for entry to a range of animal management occupations.
Based at Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall Campus, topics such as health and safety, business, animal behaviour and sustainability will be covered.
The Management and Administration (Business Improvement) course will benefit those students who wish to work in any sector within an administrative or managerial role.
Learners will develop project planning skills, knowledge and understanding around how to support the running of an organisation, and how to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
The qualification will help learners gain an understanding of the management and administration sector, covering topics such as, business context; people; quality compliance, and change management.
The Onsite Construction T-Level aims to equip students with the practical skills and technical knowledge required for various roles within the construction sector.
It is aimed at the following Vocational routes, including Site Carpentry and Bricklaying, but will in future it is intended to include Plumbing, Electrical installation, and Construction management.
