One of our Level 3 Media Make-Up and Special Effects students landed some high-profile work experience on ITV’s primetime detective show, Vera.
Amber Varley has recently shadowed the Senior Make-Up Artist on the TV set of Vera and was able to learn new techniques to help with her future development.
Speaking about her experience, Amber commented: “The Media Make-Up and Special Effects course at Northumberland College has such varied content and the practices learned in college certainly supported during my placement.
“It was so exciting to work on the set of Vera to see first-hand how everything functions behind the camera and what is expected in the industry.
“I am grateful to the teaching staff at college for highlighting the importance of getting work experience whilst learning and boosting my confidence.”
Following her time at ITV, Amber has gone onto lead the make-up artistry for numerous independent films across the country and for a pilot TV series.
Kirsten Wilkin, Head of Creative and Care Academy at Northumberland College, added “We are delighted with the progress Amber has made on her course as she progressed from Level 2 to Level 3.
“Amber has gained excellent knowledge whilst studying with us and on her placement, and we have no doubt she will move onto a fabulous career within Media Make-Up and Special Effects.”
