Northumberland College recently celebrated the achievements of its Higher Education students at an inspirational graduation ceremony.
The graduands were presented with their diplomas from a wide range of courses at the college’s Kirkley Hall Campus, including honours degrees; foundation degrees; higher apprenticeships; higher national diplomas; higher national certificates; and professional qualifications.
Following the ceremony, they joined their friends and families in the historic 17th century Kirkley Hall for a drinks reception to formally mark the end of their programmes with us and the start of the next chapter in their bright futures.
Jeff Hope, Manufacturing Director for the UK & Ireland for Akzonobel, who was the guest of honour at this year’s graduation, said: “It was great to be part of the ceremony and to celebrate the success of Northumberland College’s students.
“Higher Education is important because it fuels our industries and gives vocational input into skills and learning.”
Among this year’s graduates was BSc (Hons) Animal Welfare Management student Emily Grey, who gave the Vote of Thanks speech at the end of the ceremony.
The 27-year-old, who achieved a First Class Honours, said: “I’ve loved my time at Northumberland College – the lecturers are so inspirational with their background and their teaching methods, and they have inspired me to have such a passion for animal welfare and everything we’ve learned.
“I’m now the Head Keeper at Northumberland College’s Zoo – I get to do a wealth of different things including working with students, teaching and looking after all of the amazing animals.”
Judith Quinn, Northumberland College Campus Principal, said: “It was an amazing day to see all the students graduate, it’s a massive achievement for them and a testament to the support the staff have given them.
“We’re a real advocate for lifelong education and that’s what our adult programmes and higher education does – provide opportunities for retraining, or if it’s the first time someone has done higher education, we can support them all the way – so there really are opportunities for all.”
