Want to develop practical, work-relevant skills? V Levels are new Level 3 vocational qualifications that combine classroom learning with applied learning linked to different industries and sectors.
Each V Level is equivalent in size to one A-Level. You can combine V Levels with other V Levels or A-Levels, giving you the flexibility to build a study programme around your interests, strengths and future plans.
V Levels will be available at Northumberland College from September 2027, with more information on specific courses available soon.
If you are not quite ready to progress to Level 3 study or employment just yet, we will also be offering Level 2 Foundation Certificates and Occupational Certificates that will get you prepared for your next steps.
V Levels offer a flexible route after GCSEs, allowing you to combine vocational and academic subjects while keeping your future career options open.
V Levels are new vocational Level 3 qualifications for learners aged 16-19.
They are designed for learners who enjoy practical, applied learning and want to explore a particular sector without training for one specific occupation from the outset.
V Levels have been developed around the skills and knowledge employers need, helping you build relevant, up-to-date skills alongside your subject knowledge.
You will combine classroom learning with projects and practical activities that help you understand how your knowledge can be applied in the workplace.
Unlike a T Level, which focuses on one technical route, V Levels give you more flexibility to combine different subjects within your study programme. This allows you to study a combination of subjects rather than focusing your entire study programme on one career area.
These are Level 2 qualifications for learners aged 16-19 that have you covered whether you want to progress into Level 3 study like A-Levels, V Levels or T Levels or straight into employment.
The Foundation Certification is a great first step for students wanting to build their confidence and knowledge before progressing to Level 3 studies like A-Levels, V Levels or T Levels. Alongside your studies you will also have additional time for English and Maths as needed.
The Occupational Certificate is an employment focused study option, with classroom-based learning that is linked to employer needs, preparing you for applying your knowledge in the workplace.
You'll be assessed through a combination of exams and practical, applied work.
For the first V Levels starting in 2027, 40% of your overall marks will come from exams and 60% from non-exam assessment. This could include practical activities and projects that allow you to show both what you know and how you can apply it. V Levels are graded from A*-E, with an additional P grade for Pass.
You may already be interested in a particular industry but want time to explore the different opportunities within it. You might also want to combine practical learning with an academic subject you enjoy.
Our guidance team will help you understand which subjects work well together and how your choices could support your next step.
