V Levels

Combine practical learning with the freedom to explore

Want to develop practical, work-relevant skills? V Levels are new Level 3 vocational qualifications that combine classroom learning with applied learning linked to different industries and sectors.

Each V Level is equivalent in size to one A-Level. You can combine V Levels with other V Levels or A-Levels, giving you the flexibility to build a study programme around your interests, strengths and future plans.

V Levels will be available at Northumberland College from September 2027, with more information on specific courses available soon.

❯ What is a V Level?

V Levels are new vocational Level 3 qualifications for learners aged 16-19.

They are designed for learners who enjoy practical, applied learning and want to explore a particular sector without training for one specific occupation from the outset.

V Levels have been developed around the skills and knowledge employers need, helping you build relevant, up-to-date skills alongside your subject knowledge.

You will combine classroom learning with projects and practical activities that help you understand how your knowledge can be applied in the workplace.

Unlike a T Level, which focuses on one technical route, V Levels give you more flexibility to combine different subjects within your study programme. This allows you to study a combination of subjects rather than focusing your entire study programme on one career area.

❯ How will V Levels be assessed?

You'll be assessed through a combination of exams and practical, applied work.

For the first V Levels starting in 2027, 40% of your overall marks will come from exams and 60% from non-exam assessment. This could include practical activities and projects that allow you to show both what you know and how you can apply it. V Levels are graded from A*-E, with an additional P grade for Pass.
