Whether you prefer hands-on horseback experiences or wish to focus on non-riding aspects, this programme adapts to your interests and career aspirations. You'll learn essential skills such as grooming, feeding, and stable management, and gain insights into horse anatomy and health care practices.

You will need 4 GCSE's at grade 3-9 including Maths and English.

16-18 Free There may be some additional costs during the year, such as trips or equipment. All learners are expected to wear uniform, which is ordered at the time of enrolment. You will be expected to have appropriate riding and yard clothing to undertake the course. You will also need classroom equipment, including a folder, paper and pens so that you can take notes when in class.

The course includes both theory (classroom) and practical sessions. The course is assessed with a multiple choice exam and a synoptic assessment, which assesses both your practical and theoretical skills, as well as optional units.

Achieving a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English is important, but if you're not there yet, don’t worry! We provide supportive classes to help you meet these essential criteria. These subjects form the backbone of your educational toolkit, opening doors to further studies and exciting apprenticeships. Our sessions in Maths and English will equip you with the skills needed to thrive academically and professionally.

You are expected to undertake a minimum of 150 hours of work experience which will generally be in an external placement. There is the opportunity of more significant work experience and your tutor will advise you of this at the start of your course. This can lead to an apprenticeship or full time employment and can offer additional financial support for transport and food.

This Level 2 technical certificate is for you if you are looking to start a career in the equine industry. There are riding and non-riding options.

You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working with horses, or to progress you to further learning at Level 3.

You will study 8 mandatory modules:

- Health and safety
- Equine health and welfare
- Working in the equine industry
- Horse tack and equipment
- Undertake routine stable duties
- The principles of feeding and watering horses
- Horse Handling and gooming
- Introduction to lungeing

Optional units you can chose from:

- Introduction to Biology
- Riding horses
- Assist with the transportation of horses
- Competition Grooming

Upon completing this programme, students are well-prepared to either step straight into a career or progress to higher-level studies. Students typically secure roles at riding schools, livery yards, or within equine welfare organisations.
