Northumberland College once again proudly sponsored the Northumberland County Show which saw thousands of people flock to the much-loved agricultural event.
Students and staff from Kirkley Hall and Ashington campuses met with many of the 25,000 visitors and showcased everything the college has to offer including its outstanding land-based and residential provision.
Lee Lister, Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall Campus Principal said: “The Northumberland County Show is an annual event that celebrates all things rural, Agriculture, Farming and Food, along with local culture and heritage in Northumberland.
“As the most northerly Land based College in England, located in the wonderful county of Northumberland, we were delighted once again to sponsor the show and have a showcase the brilliant work of our college.
“Being a Land based event, we were delighted that staff and students were there on the day to promote our work and to provide a great day of education and entertainment to the people attending.”
As the only college within Northumberland County, it’s important to have a presence at this event showcasing the wide range of technical and land-based courses on offer. The county show also provided a great opportunity to connect with the community and highlight the opportunities available at Northumberland.
To top off what was another fantastic event, Northumberland College took home first place for the Agricultural Trade Stand Award.
Some of the sights, sounds and tastes of a fun-filled day out in the countryside included hundreds of competitive livestock classes for horses, cattle, sheep, alpacas, pigs, goats, fur and feather, Floristry, baking and home crafts and many more.
Students studying Animal courses took part in different competitions showcasing cattle and coming third and second place in different categories, while foundations students were also in attendance raising money for the RNLI and Harry’s tandem skydive, which is taking place in early June.
Northumberland College is part of the top performing college group in the Northeast for student achievement for the third year running (NARTs 2023-24, 16-18 student achievement), delivering highly successful courses for nearly 30 years. The land based campus at Kirkley Hall is top nationally for 16-18 achievement for students studying programmes such as Agriculture, Horticulture Equine and Animal Care.
