Northumberland College students are a step closer to reaching their education and career ambitions after receiving their vocational qualification results.
Hundreds of the college’s students collected their results this summer with many accepting offers from some of the country’s leading universities, progressing to higher level apprenticeships, or starting a new career.
The college achieved an overall 91.5% pass rate for Level 3 qualifications delivered at Ashington, Berwick and Kirkley Hall campuses, with many courses including Animal Management, Equine Management and Floristry achieving 100% pass rates. These results also included 100% pass rates for the first year of T Level in Health.
Amy Pickering, Equine Tutor said: “I am immensely proud of all the equine results this year and well done to all our students.
“All students have worked so hard this year to achieve their great results, with a 100% pass rate on Level 3 Equine including three students achieving a Distinction*.
“The students are all going onto a positive destination as they will either continue another year of study here at Northumberland College or have gained employment, an apprenticeship or further education.”
Lee Lister, Vice Principal of Northumberland College said: “I am delighted for the students and their families.
“Outstanding results evidence hard work and dedication, from both staff and students. The results this year build on continued improvement year on year and showcase just how good the students of Northumberland are.
“To enable the students to continue their journey, we are delighted to be able to welcome students returning to us, but also support students into employment, an apprenticeship, or Higher Education.”
Outstanding individual achievements included Daniel Young who achieved Distinction and two Merits in Engineering and is hoping to secure a job at AkzoNobel to progress to a Mechanical Technician.
Daniel said: “I felt relieved as I opened my results. Studying at the college has helped me achieve this by supplying me with the raw knowledge I needed to get a basic understanding of the mechanics, the systems and procedures in industry to help me proceed with my job.”
Another delighted Engineering student, Cameron Bagley, is also aiming to get employment at AkzoNobel where he undertook his internship after receiving 3 Merits.
Cameron said: “I felt relieved to have passed. The facilities at Northumberland College have helped me to gain transferable skills to a workplace.”
Students collected their results from Ashington and Kirkley Hall campuses during the summer with those unable to pick up their results in person receiving an email later in the morning.
The college’s Matrix Standard accredited Careers team has also been on hand offering support and one-to-one appointments offering advice and guidance on grades, clearing and course options.
Principal Gary Potts said: “Our students work extremely hard to achieve their qualifications, so this is always an anxious time for them but overall, we have seen some impressive results with many individual exceptional achievements across our vocational qualifications, which will equip them with the knowledge and skills to achieve their next goal of continuing into higher education or progressing into employment on a high-quality career path.
“We are very proud of them.”
