The NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft: Floristry is an introductory, practical course designed for those with little or no prior experience. It provides a welcoming and supportive environment to explore basic floristry skills and develop your creativity.
You will learn how to create simple floral designs while gaining confidence in handling materials, using tools, and applying design ideas. This course is ideal for hobbyists, beginners, or anyone considering a future in floristry or the creative industries.

Teaching takes place in a relaxed, practical workshop setting. You will:
- Learn through demonstrations and hands-on activities
- Build a portfolio of your work, including photos and written evidence
- Receive regular feedback and guidance from your tutor
Assessment is 100% coursework-based, with no exams. Your work will be internally assessed through your portfolio.
This course is designed to fit around work or other daytime commitments:
Day: Monday evenings
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Duration: 30 weeks (September to May)
You may also be encouraged to complete some light independent work, such as sketching ideas or updating your portfolio.
This course aims to:
- Introduce basic floristry techniques and creative skills
- Build confidence in using tools, materials, and equipment safely
- Develop creativity and an understanding of simple design principles
- Provide a foundation for further study in floristry or creative crafts
- Encourage enjoyment and personal expression through practical work
You will study a selection of units which may include:
- Using materials, tools and equipment for creative craft
- Developing basic craft skills and techniques
- Creating simple floristry designs
- Presenting and reviewing your work
Course content may include:
- Simple floral arrangements and hand-tied designs
- Basic colour theory and design principles
- Flower care and preparation
- Seasonal and occasion-based designs
On successful completion, you can progress to:
– NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft: Floristry
– Other Level 2 qualifications in art, design, or creative crafts
The course can also support personal development or provide a pathway into entry-level roles within floristry or retail environments.
