What’s it all about?

The course is a great alternative for those who don't want to head off to university to study higher education, or who do not want to study away from home. We offer smaller class sizes to allow you to explore a range of computing topics, will look in considerable detail a range of factors influencing technology within companies and how a range of IT / Computing solutions can be developed to improve efficiency within an organisation.

You will need a BTEC Diploma Level 3 (MM Grade) or 2 A Levels grade 9-4/A*-C.

You will be assessed on: Programming, Security, Networking, Web Design, Professional Development, Databases, Software Development Lifecycles and then submit a final project.

To enrol on this course, you will require GCSEs in Maths and English at grades 9-4 (A*-C).

We have various industry links to support with projects and research.

This course takes place over 1 year, full time.

Delivery times will be 2 evenings ( 5-9pm Tuesday and Thursdays) with 4 hours of directed study.

The HNC in computing is a specialist, work-related programme of study that aims to give you the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required by the computing sector. The course offers academic and technical training that will give you the skills necessary to design, implement and support IT systems in a vast range of industries. You will develop a range of contemporary vocational skills relating to the use and support of IT systems.

You will study 8 units as part of this course. You will study a number of compulsory modules and then be given the option to choose 1 additional module from the remaining optional units.

These modules include:

- Programming
- Networking
- Professional Development
- Database Design and Development
- Security
- Managing a Successful Project
- Software Development Lifecycles
- Website Development

This course is a Level 4, which is the equivalent to the first year of university or a Foundation Degree.

What’s next?

You may wish to progress to a HND in Computing on completion of this course, or you could progress to either university or start your career at an appropriate level. We will be on hand to support you in deciding which route is best for you.
