In both theory and practical lessons, you will learn about animal behaviour, husbandry, health and welfare along with a range of specialist modules such as animal adaptations, animal nursing and training methods.

You will need 5 GCSE's at grade 4-9 which must include Maths, English and Science and appropriate animal husbandry experience. A relevant Level 2 qualification would also be considered alongside GCSE Maths and English.

After completing the course you could study a Foundation Degree at Kirkley Hall or progress on to university to study a BSc (Hons) in Zoology/Animal Behaviour/Conservation/Animal Science/ Animal Management for example. This qualification carries 16 to 56 UCAS points (depending on the grade achieved).
Or, alternatively, you could find employment in animal management/welfare organisations or in research. For example, you could work as an Assistant Zoo Keeper, Assistant Kennel/Cattery Worker, Dog Groomer/Assistant Dog Groomer, Animal Care Technician, Animal Nutritionist or a Vet Care Assistant.
