What is the UCAS application?

The UCAS application is a tool for applying to higher education in the UK. It's a country wide system where you submit your personal details, academic history, and up to five university course choices. Think of it as your first step toward your dream degree and career!

Where do I find my UCAS login?

To start your application, register in the UCAS Hub. Here, you'll enter your planned year of study and confirm you're applying for undergraduate study.

What questions are on the UCAS application?

The UCAS application has thirteen steps to complete. Each section ensures UCAS and universities can contact you and understand your application accurately. Here's what you'll need to provide information on:

Adding Choices

Once you've completed the sections, you can add up to five course choices on your application overview.

How much does a UCAS application cost?

For the 2026 application, single choice applications are no longer available. You'll now pay £28.95 for a five-choice application.

When is the UCAS deadline?

UCAS has key deadlines to keep in mind:

  • September 2 - Undergraduate applications can be submitted.
  • October 15, 6PM - Equal consideration date for medicine, dentistry, and veterinary courses.
  • January 14, 6PM - Equal consideration date for most undergraduate courses.
  • October 19 - Last date to add a Clearing choice.

What is the UCAS personal statement?

Your UCAS personal statement is a short essay (around 450 words) where you showcase your strengths, skills, and passion for your chosen subject.

It's divided into three sections - Why do you want to study this course or subject?, How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?, What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful? With each section requiring a minimum character count of 350.
