Veterinary Nursing

Veterinary nursing is a specialised field that requires a deep understanding of various medical procedures for animals with unique physiologies. Due to its complexity, the progression path in this field differs from most, but it offers tremendous rewards for those passionate about animal care.

How to start your Veterinary Nursing journey:

Due to the complexity of Veterinary Nursing, the progression path in this course differs slightly, including a required 60 day placement alongside your study:

For those who are 16, we recommend pursuing an alternative year-long course, such as our equine or animal management programmes, which will strengthen your skillset before further study in veterinary nursing.

Course

Our Level 2 Veterinary Nursing course is a year-long programme designed for individuals aged 17 and older. As part of the course, you are required to find a 60 hour placement with a veterinary practice, providing hands-on experience.

Placement

Before starting this course, you must secure a 60 hour work experience placement with a veterinary practice, to complete alongside your studies.

Our Facilities

You'll study this subject full time at Kirkley Hall campus and will have access to brand new veterinary centre with:

  • Operating theatre
  • Consultation rooms
  •  X-ray and animal models
  • Zoological Gardens with over 200 species of animals
  • Laboratories for animal analysis
  • Dog grooming parlour and kennels
  • Access to online resources including ZIMS and Vet Logic system
