Studying at Northumberland College opened up a world of adventure for Mark. After climbing Mount Toubkal for charity, he then travelled to Canada to spend the summer working as an Activity Specialist.
Mark is currently a Climbing Wall Instructor at Newcastle Climbing Wall and looking forward to his next big trip.
The college was recommended by a friend.
The part I liked the most would be the residentials because I feel like I developed the most as a climber, instructor and a person on theses trips.
The first residentials I did helped me a lot with personal development as before the trip and by the end I was closer with my peers with life lessons under my belt and overall a much better climber as we climbed or hiked everyday.
I developed so much in fact that I was able to comfortably run the same residential for the next generation in the outdoor department. And I loved being able to see my own progression.
I now possess the qualifications that allow me to work at any climbing wall and take groups outdoor climbing.
The residentials because I feel like I developed the most as a climber, instructor and a person on theses trips.
At the end of the course we did an expedition to Morocco and climbed Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in the atlas mountains.
The Activity Centre was amazing as I was able to train with real clients while learning how to set up the high ropes the climbing tower. This really helped me to pass my rock climbing instructor assessment.
Memorable experience and thanks!
Right now I have just returned from working at a summer camp in Canada.
As soon as I got back I was able to find a job at Newcastle Climbing Wall where I work as a Climbing Wall Instructor.
On top of that I also work at Go Outdoors as I’m saving for my next big trip!
I hope the outdoor department does well even after the recent merger as it really has sent me down a amazing path of adventure and it has some awesome people. Thanks a lot!
