Sian was looking to further her education after completing her  Level 2 and Level 3 Equine Apprenticeship which inspired her to want to become an Equine Coach. The friendly atmosphere at Kirkley Hall made her feel at home but she says the best thing about her course was gaining hands on experience, and working with horses every day.

Level 2 & Level 3 Equine Apprenticeship and Foundation Degree in Equestrian Performance & Coaching.

I wanted to pursue a career with horses, mainly equine coaching.

I wanted to still live at home and Northumberland College offered a course suitable for me. Having studied at Kirkley Hall previously for my lLevel 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeship I felt welcome there.

There was lots of hands on experience to help in the industry.

They provided really helpful feedback and if there was anything I was struggling with whether it was with my work or outside of college they were there to help and support me.

I really enjoyed the jumping clinic at Swinhoe Riding Centre as jumping was something I struggled with – it was really helpful.

In my coaching sessions I felt comfortable and thought this is what I wanted to do after college.

No advice in particular but my tutor Naomi took an interest in what I wanted to do after college and really helped and supported my career choice.

Definitely go for it! Being at college didn’t just give me experience with horses, I know I’ve changed and became a more confident person in myself.

I’m now a self-employed equine groom and coach.

It helped me gain more experience for setting up my own business and by having a foundation degree it sets me apart from other freelance grooms.
