Northumberland College recently celebrated the achievements of its Higher Education students at an inspirational graduation ceremony.

The graduands were presented with their diplomas from a wide range of courses at the college’s Kirkley Hall Campus, including honours degrees; foundation degrees; higher apprenticeships; higher national diplomas; higher national certificates; and professional qualifications.

After introductions from the Vice Chair of Governors Alison Shaw students took centre stage on the day.

Following the ceremony, they joined their friends and families in the historic 17th century Kirkley Hall for a drinks reception to formally mark the end of their programmes with us and the start of the next chapter in their bright futures.

John McCabe, North East Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive was the guest of honour at this years graduation and he said: “It was a huge privilege to speak at Northumberland’s College Graduation ceremony and to share the special moment with students, their families, friends, and lecturers.

“I was struck by the energy, ambition, and determination in the room, it’s those qualities that will create the business leaders, the entrepreneurs, and the skilled workforce of tomorrow.

“I look forward to seeing the impact I know those graduates will go on to make in shaping the future of the North East and ensuring the region and its businesses are an influential force for good, not just nationally but on a global scale. A huge congratulations again to all of the graduates.”

Among this year’s graduates was Rebecca Duckworth – BSc (Hons) in Applied Animal Management, who received the Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence for going above and beyond within her studies and adding value to the wider college student experience, community, her employment, further progression and skills.

Gary Potts, Principal of Northumberland College said: “We love to celebrate achievements and see our students thriving and succeeding. They’ve shown hard work, dedication, and shown an amazing mindset to overcome whatever challenges and have come through achieving fantastic grades.”

Northumberland College offers a variety of Higher Education courses including a number run in partnership with and accredited by local universities, such as the University of Cumbria.

Ashton Amoah, who studied Applied Animal Management, said: “Studying at Northumberland College has helped me progress further up the ladder and get noticed by the people I need to get noticed by.”

Fellow student Ruby Sutherland, who studied Animal Management and Science Degree, added: “I recommend studying at Northumberland College as it’s a great environment to study in, with a lot of different facilities.”
