Northumberland College Uniformed Public Students (UPS) are on a heartfelt mission to raise money to support two incredible charities that are making a profound difference in the lives of many, by taking part in a tandem skydive in May.
The skydive will help to raise money for two charities and will also support improvements to the Student Shack at the college’s Kirkley Hall campus.
The Shack is the college’s student area where residential students can visit during the evening and meet other residents or guests. The aim is to enhance opportunities for students at Kirkley Hall by providing them with essential facilities that aid their personal and educational development.
The first charity the UPS students are raising money for is Rock2Recovery, whose unwavering commitment is to save and change the lives of those in the Armed Forces, the Veteran Community, the Emergency Services, and their families who are affected by stress. Their purpose is not just to provide support but to inspire and coach individuals towards a more positive future.
The second is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea. Through their lifeboat search and rescue operations, lifeguards, water safety education, and flood rescue efforts, they embody courage and selflessness in every action they take.
Sean Ivey, Lecturer and Programme Lead for Uniformed Public Services at Northumberland College said: “I am so proud of all the students taking part and showing real bravery and courage in aid of charity.
“By taking part in the skydive, this is demonstrating the students’ desires to support others, make a difference in their communities, and really put themselves out there. Some of the college’s foundation students are also taking part, despite living with neurodiverse conditions/disabilities, which has put barriers in front of them.”
Northumberland College Student Harry Muter said: “I have ADHD and Autism and when I first arrived at Kirkley hall, my goal to better myself, pushed me through struggle after struggle and eventually got me into a better state of mind and inspired me to do new things – I now work successfully at Ashington leisure centre. I have a big fear of heights, but this was on my bucket list – I’m about to jump out of a plane to do a tandem skydive.”
The target is £6000 on the JustGiving page, but the staff and students at Northumberland College are hoping to surpass that. You can donate by following this link: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/northumberlandcollegeskydive?utm_term=629q8WNNw
