A group of students from the college’s travel and tourism and football academies have just returned from an exciting trip to Spain where they gained vital knowledge to put towards their studies.
The trip began in Salou where the travel and tourism students experienced working abroad in a holiday complex, whilst the football academy students visited the Futbol Cambrills complex to learn about the Spanish coaching philosophies, coaching styles and use of coaching techniques.
Both groups visited Port Aventura Theme Park, which is a favoured excursion in the resort.
Staying in the port city of Tarragona in Catalonia, the students visited the ancient Roman ruins, toured the Amfiteatre Roma the Necropolis containing Roman tombs in the walled medieval old town.
The football academy learners also attended a football match between Gimnàstic de Tarragona F.C. and Extremadura UD.
On their final part of the trip, the group stayed in the Catalonian capital of Barcelona where they visited Barcelona’s Olympic stadium and museum, and Camp Nou football stadium hosted by FC Barcelona.
There were opportunities to experience the vast tourist attractions within the three destinations, including bus tours, cable car views and walking tours, visiting historic art and architecture sites.
The travel and tourism students were able to apply knowledge gained to their courses by organising part of the trip themselves as well as visiting the popular tourist destinations and reporting on the places.
The Football Academy students will be using the knowledge they gained about Spanish football coaching to their assignments, along with knowledge around health and safety at sports grounds within Health and Safety units.
Football Academy tutor George Bramley said:
“The trip was a fantastic experience for both groups of students. They gained so much knowledge that they can now use in their assignments and also for their future career paths.”
Football Academy student, Jordan Hoy said:
“The trip was spectacular. There was so much to do and we all learned so much and are very grateful for the opportunity to experience Barcelona.”
