Sport students from Northumberland College have delivered Paralympic-themed activities to youngsters with special educational and learning needs.
Working in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust and Newcastle United Foundation in Berwick, the students organised a festival inspired by the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games which included sports such as New Age Kurling, Badminton, Volleyball and Boccia.
Gaining experience of working with different learners as they put their coaching and leadership skills to the test, the students also met with staff from Youth Sport Trust and Newcastle United Foundation who are potential employers.
Simon Dutson, Lecturer in Sport, said:
“The Tokyo 2020 Learning and Discovery sessions allowed our students put into practice what they have learned throughout their course.
“They also learned new skills and sports they wouldn’t normally take part in, and gain valuable experience working with youngsters with learning needs.”
