Students across Sunderland, Northumberland and Hartlepool Sixth Form College are to take part in several activities and challenges to raise awareness of mental health, fitness and wellbeing of young adults and students across the UK as part of The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT).

The BRIT supports young adult and student mental health, fitness and wellbeing in the UK through completing an annual inclusive ‘feel good’ challenge.

Last year Education Partnership North East (EPNE) worked as a team and completed a total of 4,335 miles of walking, running, cycling or rowing based activities.

This year EPNE will be supporting the BRIT Challenge once again, with a number of health, wellbeing and movement-based activities on offer across all campuses on Wednesday 13 March 2024.

John Rushworth, Associate Principal for Enhanced Curriculum at Sunderland College said: “We are delighted that students across all our EPNE campuses will take part in the annual BRIT Challenge ‘feelgood fundraiser’ to raise awareness for mental health, fitness and wellbeing.

“Improving and supporting the mental health of our students is always a priority and the BRIT challenge is a great way of achieving this whilst also contributing to vital fundraising for charity.”

The activities are all focussed around a ‘24 theme’, examples including mindfulness sessions, campus walks and circuit sessions – all being 24 minutes in length.

Other North East Colleges are also supporting the BRIT Challenge on the 13 March date and North East Universities will complete their BRIT Challenges on the 14 March.

BRIT aspires be an integral part of sustained change within the Education Sector, and EPNE will continue to act as an enabler and offer the BRIT Challenge as a catalyst to improve mental health, fitness, and wellbeing.

UK universities, colleges, specialist colleges and Students’ Unions are invited to unite with BRIT and hold their own inclusive Challenge to improve mental health and fitness, all whilst raising funds for BRIT. This collectively powerful approach is integral to support young adult, student, and staff mental health in the short, medium and long-term.

Designed to be completed by individuals working as a team, the challenge embraces any activity that promotes health, fitness and wellbeing and supports students and staff of all abilities.
